Filial Inheritance: Lack of Skills?

People rue about the fact that many --in different industries-- have the presence of Godfathers to accentuate their skills. This, they say, helps such people to be successful. However discrediting the people voicing such opinions be, the fact remains that the distinguished people are not incapable of their envious position in society or workplaces.

This can be seen from various businessmen's family tree. For example, the Tatas. Their genealogy boasts of great and admirable gentlemen like: Jamsetji Tata, the founder of Tata steel, Taj Mahal Hotel and a great visionary; JRD Tata, the Indian aviation industry pioneer, aviator, Tata motors founder and an astute leader who brought out the best from his staff; Ratan Tata, the consolidator of Tata conglomerate from acquisition of Tetley, Jaguar and Land Rover. The brand is a byword among people and an inspiration for budding entrepreneurs.

The great luminaries behind this brand cannot be limited to have been founders of only the companies listed above. Many reputable institutions like IISc were also spawned by the Tata greats. Even the Bombay plan, the first five-year plan, was presented with JRD Tata in the committee.

Such great people are born in successive generations of many famed families. It is not wise to digress to an issue of 'Godfather syndrome'. Great achievers are found down the generations of families too. Their family members do pass the baton.
